We spend our whole lives moving in and out of relationships based on our feelings. We start with the bond with our mother, father, siblings, cousins, school teachers, first crush, first boss, many bosses, people we work with, people we work for, the love of our lives, the dog. We spend our lives negotiating relationships, learning, growing and getting hurt. We would not be human without these relationships and the consequential emotions.
My personal relationships are always the starting point for a body of work. I work through the emotions using the language of clay. The nuances of this material is akin to a person. Maker and material need to converse through each touch to create line, form and movement. These conversations grow into sculptural pieces, installations and performance work that ask both maker and viewer to be fully engaged, emotionally and physically.
